Individual Counseling

In individual therapy I encourage my clients to work through issues at their own pace and I will support you in making the lifestyle changes you want.  My goal is to listen to you with empathy, respect, understanding and compassion in a comfortable, safe setting.  Becoming aware of one’s inner world and making the time and place to slow down and explore this often creates healing and understanding of oneself.

Individual counseling is usually a deeply personal process where you can explore, heal and learn from the protective or wounded parts of yourself.  Becoming aware of one’s inner world and caring for oneself often helps a person change and grow to become more of their true selves. Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, self esteem, compulsions, adjustments, unresolved grief or something else?

I can provide specific strategies for helping you to create the lifestyle changes that you want most, or change unwanted thoughts, behaviors, or emotions that are impacting you.  Some clients simply want to explore their feelings and to understand themselves better or change their behavior patterns.

I sometimes incorporate EMDR therapy, a recognized form of therapy by the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the Department of Defense as well as the World Health Organization as an effective form of trauma treatment.  I also use mindfulness approaches and biofeedback. It is not usual for clients to laugh as well as to cry in session, what ever needs to come out usually will when you are ready.

I may use a single treatment approach or combine several and on occasion you might feel gently challenged.  Through our  work together we can release worries or patterns that no longer serve you.  This often creates changes or understandings that  can create a more comfortable present and a brighter tomorrow.  If you are struggling, now is always the right time to get to know yourself better.  Change is possible.
